[He knows her! Dammit, he'd tipped his hand way too much! Well, it was about time. He can never hide anything from them forever, except just one thing.]

[ She doesn't even bother to deny it. Why should she? Now she feels slightly guilty for taking the cake -- not enough to give it back to him; one of them needs to be responsible, here, but enough that her initial plan of eating it in front of him is right out.

So she puts the cake back into its box, closing it up, removing it from sight. There. ]

You're so difficult to shop for. We'd both be happy to find something you'd want.

[First World Friendship Problems with Sakakura Juzo. He watches her put the cake away with a sigh. That's . . . thoughtful of her. He might have flipped the table watching her eat the whole thing.]

And I don't want to hear complaining about being spoiled from Mister "Dinner's on me just because I got the check first, even though it's my birthday and it's supposed to be my treat."

[He's silent for a moment before he continues, looking off to the space beside her head rather than at her face.]

You two came out with me—that was all I cared about.

[ She jabs a finger at him, and maybe he's not looking at her face, but she's staring directly at his. ]

The point is, you should let us take care of you, once in a while. Otherwise, isn't that unfair to you?

[Oh, fine. He looks back at her with a frown, though not a very upset frown, all things told.]

I don't need taking care of! You guys both do plenty for me. That's what you don't get! . . . Even just having people like you to tell me happy birthday . . . that's more than I can ever repay you for with just some—dinner.

[ She shakes her head at that, smiling in response to his frown. ]

Wishing someone well, or anything like that... that's easy. That's something I can do for any of my friends. But you're my best friend. So of course I want to do more for you than that! ...Kyousuke, too. We both want to.

[He softens a little, even as he scoffs at her, uncertain of what to say in response to that.]

[ Caught! She shakes her hand a little in his grip, though she's not even trying to actually get free. Oh no, what will happen. ]

Just for that, you'll get two cakes. Three! No, four--!!

[He pushes their hands down to the table without letting go of hers, holding it casually—not terribly intimately, but it's nice, he has to admit.]

I like flowers better than cake!

[ That's... not always true, actually, but sometimes. Sometimes it's true. She wiggles her hand a little harder under his, though it's still not even a token attempt to get free. ]

Remember that! When it's my birthday!!

[That's probably something your boyfriend should get you . . .

He smiles, though, letting go of her hand eventually.]

I think he already knows.

[ I mean. Probably? It's Kyousuke?? She leaves her hand where it is for a few more seconds, then draws it back, so she can just rest her chin on both hands, elbows on the table. ]

You want flowers from me too?

[Well. It's not like he wouldn't get them for her. They don't have to be a romantic gesture! Friend flowers!]

[ That actually gives her a moment of pause. It's not that she would mind getting flowers from him, it's more that she can't actually imagine him doing it. He'd probably scare the workers the moment they thought he was buying for a girlfriend. ]

For real? You would?

If that's what you wanted. I just didn't think you'd ever ask for something like that from me. And I don't know anything about flowers, so you'll have to settle for whatever I get you.

[He says, as if he wouldn't go out of his way to pick something perfect. He totally would.]

[ Chisa laughs at that -- not unkindly, not at all, just... charmed, really. That's just a very cute image to her. ]

If they were flowers from you, Sakakura-kun, I wouldn't care if you picked them from the roadside.

[ She knows he'll do better than that, but that'd also be charming in its own way, big scary Sakakura Juzo with a fistful of scraggly daisies held out in offering. What a cute best friend. ]

[He grins back, cocky, but there's a certain softness behind it that he only shows to her and Kyousuke.]

[ She smiles right back, serenely fond. What a cute lug she has in her life. ]

Those will also be memories for me.

[He's already getting to his feet and pulling out his wallet.]

[ She gets to her feet as well, scooping up the little box with the cake and setting her other hand on her hip. ]

Don't you dare! If I want something more, I can pay for it myself!

All right, all right! Then get in line already so we can head out. At least let me carry that for you.
